The Molly Bloom
Hello from The Molly Bloom The Molly Bloom is a psychedelic alternative pop band
from New York City. We're characterized by expert
songwriting and musicianship, insightful and funny
lyrics. Some songs sound like Talking Heads played by
The Grateful Dead, while others sound like Morrissey
on a bad hair day. The five-instrument lineup is most
reminiscent of Roxy Music.
This is the history of our band. One day, not so long ago, Citizen Casey was going out to vote. On the way, he ran into Moses Cook, whose left arm is a clarinet, and whose right arm is a saxophone. Moses said, "You should not vote, Citizen Casey, until you know how to vote. Instead, won't you take a walk with me." They gathered up the rest of The Molly Bloom -- Chris the Raw, Matt Moss (bass), and Matty G -- and started to play their music with glee.
They found that when they played their music with glee, it opened up the vortex of TEMPORAREALITY, the land of "Used to Be". In TEMPORAREALITY, unlike regular reality, everything is both temporary and real. They went inside and there they saw God the cat. "Good folks," said God, "where do you come from and where are you going?"
The Molly Bloom could not agree. Said Casey, "See I have no control of the things that compose my soul." Said Chris the Raw, "Look at what clean living can do!" Said Matt Moss (bass) "We get bored we think of games to play, we like sleeping sleep when we're awake." Said Moses Cook, "Everything here is so temporary. I want a taste that's permanent."
Said God the cat, "If you want to find the place where things are both permanent and real, you must find the MINDPAPERCITIES CAF. Your current lives are but a pale reflection of the lives of the people who live there. But the only clue I can give you about how to get there is to look in the missing 13th space. Now I must go."
Said Matty G, "I know of this 13th space and how to get us there. But first we must tune my piano in such a way that I can play the sounds between the notes, all of them, so that my piano is like a saxophone." The Molly Bloom worked with Matty G. to make a piano that could play like a saxophone. It took three years, but when they were done, they had a Magic Piano like no other. When used correctly, the Magic Piano can take over the minds of its listeners and transport them, as if they were on a spaceship, to the MINDPAPERCITIES CAF, where everything is both permanent and real.
If you ever want to make it to the 13th space yourself, you should step in inside the TEMPORAREALITY, where you can bump into The Molly Bloom again and again and again.
Our Bio
TEMPORAREALITY "TEMPORAREALITY" -- the first full-length CD recorded by
The Molly Bloom -- was released in New York City in 1998.
Mixed and mastered by Michael Fossenkemper, whose credits
include Madonna, Medeski Martin & Wood, and Stone Free
(the Jimi Hendrix tribute), the album features the
psychotically sane songwriting of Citizen Casey, the avant
garde keyboardism of Matthew Geraci, and the screwed up
horns of Moses Cook. The album is notable for its diversity
of styles -- from the loungy SO MANY FREQUENCIES to the
clinically perverse KANGAROO.
